Luther Seminary FRIENDS
The Luther Seminary FRIENDS is a group of more than 200 people from Twin Cities area congregations who support and minister to the seminary through prayer, financial gifts and volunteering. Its governing board meets six times a year.
Events
This year, the FRIENDS are hosting a special event. An Evening with Krista Tippett—Speaking of Faith: Why Religion Matters and How to Think About It will be held in the Olson Campus Center at Luther Seminary on Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. RSVP to Lynne Moratzka at 651-641-3419 or lmoratzk@luthersem.edu.
Proceeds from these events, plus membership contributions, provide scholarships to seminary students. The Olson Campus Center is located at 2481 Como Ave., St, Paul, Minn. 55108. Directions are available here. Visit the event page to learn more.
The FRIENDS sponsor three annual events:
- Spring Luncheon and Program: A fundraising brunch featuring inspiring speakers from the arts community.
- Singing the Faith: A service of hymns and readings celebrating the Lutheran Reformation.
- Winter Retreat: This year's Winter Retreat has been CANCELLED.
Scholarships
The FRIENDS of Luther Seminary have provided support to seminary students since 1940. The FRIENDS Endowed Scholarship, formally established in 1988, is awarded to two U.S. and two international students each year.
The purpose of the FRIENDS Endowed Scholarship fund is to give financial support to students. The annual distribution from this fund is to be awarded to deserving student(s) as determined by the Financial Aid Office in accordance with policies and practices of Luther Seminary.
Be a volunteer!
In addition to financial support for students, the FRIENDS volunteer on Wednesday and work on a variety of projects — everything from stuffing envelopes and packets to making party favors. It's a great way to stay involved with the seminary and enjoy the cheerful company of good friends.
Join the FRIENDS!
