How Individuals Can Encourage and Foster Future Church Leaders

You may be the person needed to help someone discern his or her call to ministry. Here are some ideas.

Plant the seed

It may be as simple as: “I see real gifts for ministry in you. Have you ever thought of going to seminary?”

Pray with them

God has a plan for them and it could be a church vocation. Encourage them to listen to what the Lord is saying.

Order a CD-ROM

The CD is designed to unleash the imagination of those with gifts for ministry. It is full of student, faculty and alumni/ae stories in video, text and photos. It answers questions like:

  • What is ministry like?
  • Why would I want to pursue ministry?
  • What are the ways I can serve -- lay and ordained?
  • What is seminary like?
  • Why should I go to Luther Seminary?

Order a copy, give it to the person and encourage them to explore: www.luthersem.edu/cd

Bring a group or an individual to campus

If you live close enough, consider bringing a church group to campus and introduce them to seminary life. To schedule a campus tour, call 651-641-3419.

Extend an invitation

Invite someone to explore their vocation through one of the seminary’s call and discernment events:
