"Lord, God, you have called your servants to ventures of which we cannot see the ending, by paths as yet untrodden, through perils unknown.  Give us faith to go out with good courage, not knowing where we go, but only that your hand is leading us and your love supporting us; through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen."

LBW, p. 153, "Evening Vespers"

Oct. 12-13, 2008

Does the prospect of ordained or lay ministry sound exciting? Daunting? Both? If you are considering a church vocation you probably have a lot of questions.

Designed for post-college professionals and college-age students, during this two-day conference you will:

  • Talk with church leaders and other conference participants about call and vocation;
  • Explore your own sense of call, your gifts and the possibility of ministry in the church;
  • Immerse yourself in seminary life through:
    • class visits
    • campus tours
    • morning chapel
    • evening prayer
    • discussions with faculty and current students

Questions about admissions, financial aid/housing, the ELCA candidacy process and other denominational processes will also be addressed.

If these questions sound familiar, Ventures in Vocation is for you!

  • Am I called?
  • What do clergy do?
  • What are the joys and challenges of ordained and lay ministry?
  • What are some lay vocational options?
  • What do I have to do to prepare for ministry?
  • How can I use my gifts to minister to others?
