Discipleship

To worship the living Lord is to follow the living Christ. The seminary provides opportunities for students to learn about what it means to be a disciple of Jesus. During First Week all entering master of arts and master of divinity students gather around the many dimensions of what it means to be called to be a disciple. In poetry, image, and song; in worship, proclamation, and sacrament; in lectures, study, conversation, and prayer students and faculty explore God’s word and grow together as a community of faith.

Two required offerings for the master of arts and master of divinity degree programs are Discipleship 1 and 2. These are occasions for students to discover what it means to be a follower of Jesus through small group Bible study and discussion with their faculty advisers. Throughout the year the seminary pastor and members of the faculty offer occasions for growth in discipleship through the study of Scripture and prayer. Opportunity for spiritual direction and training in spiritual direction is provided by Professor emeritus William Smith.
