Alumni/ae-in-Residence Program
2007 Alum in Residence: David Holm, '71
The Rev.
David Holm ('71) has led his congregation Normandale Lutheran
Church, Edina, Minn. to turn out toward the world in mission and
ministry. He has served the church for 35 years, 14 of which at his
current parish.
Through his ministry at Normandale, David created the Center for
Healing and Wellness. The Center for Healing and Wellness is a
ministry devoted to serving the needs of the elderly in the
congregation and out into the community. One of the hallmarks of
this ministry is the dedication not only the care receivers but to
the care givers, as well.
David is also responsible for engaging Normandale in Lutheran Health
Care Bangladesh. His leadership brought several groups of people to
Bangladesh on medical missions and a choir tour. David refers to the
Bengali people as "our brothers and sisters" and has led the
congregation to support the mission in Bangladesh.
He also led Normandale through Marching Off the Maps, a campaign for
mission and ministry. Tired of how churches are hung up on "edifice
complexes," David envisioned a campaign with little or no capital
improvements planned, but rather, money earmarked for new housing
for the homeless, seed money for several new initiatives and
building up endowments in core ministry areas. The congregation
responded generously to the campaign.
David graduated from Luther Seminary in 1971 with a Master of
Divinity degree.
