Online textbook ordering

There’s a new way to order all the textbooks you’ll need for your classes at Luther Seminary. We have partnered with TEXTBOOKX.COM, a full-service online bookstore. Though the Luther Seminary Bookstore won’t be directly handling course book orders, we hope you’ll still visit us frequently. We want to help make this transition an easy one. If you have any additional questions, please let us know.

Here, we've provided some frequently asked questions about the ordering process through Textbookx. You can also download a pdf of this information.

FAQs

Q. Where do I need to go to order my textbooks?

A. Course books are available online through a company called Textbookx.com. You can start the ordering process by visiting www.luthersem.edu/orderbooks, which will give you direct access to the
Textbookx.com ordering system.

Q. What are my different ordering options and how can I tell the difference?

A. You can purchase new and used books through Luther Seminary. You can also purchase used books through third-party sellers. Here is a brief key to understanding your options, and how they may appear on Textbookx.com and in this FAQ.

  • Luther Seminary new and used books: Appear under Seller Info as Luther Seminary Bookstore powered by Textbookx. These options are highlighted in peach and usually appear at the end of the list of options.
  • Third-party books: Sometimes referred to as Marketplace. Appear under Seller Info as various third-party names. These options are highlighted in blue.

Q. How can I be sure I’m ordering the correct book for my course?

A. Textbookx allows you to search by faculty name and course number in addition to traditional search terms like the book’s title or author. Searching by course number ensures you’re buying the approved book.

Q. On Textbookx, I saw books available from other sellers (Marketplace). How does this work?

A. These options are offered from third-party sellers (highlighted in blue), not the Luther Seminary Bookstore (highlighted in peach). The shipping charge for each of these books is $4.96 (economy shipping) and they are not eligible for the $49 free shipping option. Please be aware that returns of third-party purchases must be handled through the individual sellers.

Q. Can I still buy my books in the bookstore?

A. Required course books will no longer be available for sale at the physical Luther Seminary Bookstore, with the exception of select Augsburg Fortress publications. Please contact or visit the bookstore directly if you need to purchase one of these titles:

• Evangelical Lutheran Worship, Pew Edition
• Evangelical Lutheran Worship, Leaders Desk Edition
• Sundays and Seasons, Year C, 2013
• “Holy Spirit: Creative Power in Our Lives”
• “Renewing Worship, Vol. 2: Principles for Worship”
• “Discovering Hope: Building Vitality in Rural Congregations”
• “Opening the Book of Faith: Lutheran Insights for Bible Study”

Q. What are my payment options through Textbookx.com?

A. Currently, online purchases must be made with a credit or debit card. If this is a problem for you, please contact Laura Buystedt (lbuysted@luthersem.edu) in the Business Office. International students or those needing reimbursement from designated book scholarship funds may contact Marie Hayes (mhayes@luthersem.edu) or Chenar Howard (choward001@luthersem.edu) in International Student and Scholar Affairs.

Q. How much will shipping cost?

A. Orders of new and used books (highlighted in peach) ship free if your order totals $49 or more. If your order totals less than $49, the most economic shipping option, economy, costs $3.97 plus 99 cents per book. Expedited shipping options are available at an additional cost. For more shipping information, visit www.luthersem.textbookx.com/service/shipping.php. Please note, shipping prices of books purchased from third-party sellers are higher than Luther Seminary books. Each third-party book will cost $4.96 in Economy shipping.

Q. How soon will my books be delivered to me?

A. Most course books leave the Textbookx warehouse within five business days. Shipping via the most economic option, economy, will take an additional three to 10 business days. So your books should arrive within two weeks of your order date, and most take less time than that. Expedited shipping options are available at an additional cost.

Q. What if I need to return my books?

A. Returns of new and used course books purchased from through Textbookx are allowed within 30 days of receiving your order confirmation. Please note that this return policy does not apply to books purchased through third-party sellers. Returns of these items must be handled directly with the third-party seller. For a complete return policy, visit www.luthersem.textbookx.com/returns. Returns cannot be handled through the physical Luther Seminary Bookstore.
