Academic Specifics and Prerequisites
This is the course path for both the Parish
Nursing Certificate and the Aging and Health Certificate. Students may
substitute one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) for 1.0
course in the concentration area.
Four of the eight courses required for the certificate are core
courses in theology, Christian history, and biblical studies. The
remaining courses focus on leadership development in pastoral care,
parish nursing, and faith and health ministry. A unit of CPE may be
substituted for 1.0 course in the student's concentration area.

The two certificates follow the current catalog specifications
for the Graduate Certificate in Congregational and Community Care
with these differences:
- Nurses enrolling in the Parish Nursing certificate program may
substitute a current RN license for the required bachelor's
degree.
- Students may receive academic credit for a unit of CPE.
- These will be distributed learning programs, with specific
course paths. Six of the eight required courses will be offered
online. Two of the eight courses will be offered in on-campus
intensives.
