Program Overview
For Certificate Programs in Specialized Ministries
Certificate programs are comprised of eight courses. The programs
are designed to be completed in one year of full-time residential
study or in two to four years through distributive learning and
online courses. Through a new application process, students who have
completed a certificate program may apply their course work toward a
Master of Arts or Master of Divinity degree.
These certificate programs are designed to equip lay leaders
across denominational lines. They qualify as the educational
requirement for certification as an Associate in Ministry in the
Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. (See
Candidacy Process for
Professional Lay Ministry .)
The certificate program in youth and family ministry is designed
for people who are interested in a ministry to young people and
their families in either a church or para-church youth organization.
The program is coordinated with Youth Leadership, Inc., and includes
field work components that are designed to assist the student with
the integration of theology and theory with experience in a ministry
setting.
