Later Paul would write a letter to "the churches of Galatia" (Gal 1:2). In this letter Paul dealt with issues concerning the need for Christians to observe Jewish practices like circumcision. He argued that if people are put right with God through faith in Christ, not the Jewish Law, they also live by faith in Christ, not the Jewish Law.

Context:  In the third century B.C., Celts from Gaul in Europe came into the region. The name "Galatia" recalls that these the ancestors of the people in the region came from Gaul in Europe. The word "Gaul" is the basis of the word "Galatian." The Roman province of Galatia included the traditional area of Galatia along with the towns of Iconium, Lystra, and Derbe to the south.
