Context: Ptolemais was a port along the coast of Roman Palestine in what today is Israel. Formerly called Acco, the city was situated in the bay of Haifa. Good access to inland roads and sea routes gave Ptolemais an important place in the commerce of the region. Wheat from Galilee was brought here for export. |
