System Requirements, Tips and Instructions

All the following listed minimums are minimums for an existing computer you may have and may not give you great performance, but it will work. You will have better performance with higher specifications, especially RAM. If you are looking at a new computer, more or less all of the retail computers will have sufficient processing power, hard drives and CD-ROM. DVD is essentially for running movies and some games. The RAM should be at least 1 GB and 2 GB would be desirable if your are running Vista. A new computer today should serve you well for 3-5 years as long as you are not trying to keep up with new cutting edge game programs.

MS Windows VISTA OS Upgrade?

NOT RECOMMENDED - When you upgrade an operating system you in most cases have to locate new drivers to run the peripheral equipment for your computer. A known problem with Windows VISTA is being able to locate drivers for older equipment. You're probably going to have some headaches making things work. Windows VISTA also has more overhead and will require more RAM, like 2GB, to run reasonably with a few applications open. Other than some pretty things there is really not much reason to upgrade to VISTA. Buying a new computer with VISTA is OK since the manufacturer of the system will have already put the drivers together for everything in the computer. If you have a desktop and intend to add some equipment you already have like a second optical drive, be sure VISTA drivers are available before you commit to doing it. It is still possible to get new systems with the XP OS and that is our recommendation if you have the option.
