Anti-Virus Software

Information for home use

PCs

We recommend a free antivirus program called AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition.  CNet has given it a 5 star rating. You can find the down load at http://free.grisoft.com/doc/downloads-products/us/frt/0?prd=aff  or if the URL changes you can do a Google search for AVG to download it or go to download.com and search for it to download. You should uninstall any old anti-virus software before you install this new program. You can uninstall your old program by going to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs > Select any anti-virus program and click on remove. Then install the AVG.

Macintosh

The Mac community seems to claim that after OS X there are no Mac viruses. Here is a URL for a free "checker". You can check it out and decide for yourself. http://www.pure-mac.com/virus.html This is only a free "checker", but the claim is that Mac OS X does not get viruses so as long as you are using OS X you shouldn't need more than the reassurance of a "checker".
