Teaching Parish

Teaching Parish is a key component in your training to become a missional pastoral leader in the Church. Whether you are planning to be ordained in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America or another denomination, a four (4) semester term in a Teaching Parish is a required part of your M.Div. track.

This is more than just another requirement; it is an opportunity to explore what it means to do theology in a specific context, e.g. urban, urban fringe, suburban, town & country, rural, specialized.

During your time in a Teaching Parish, you will engage in a lively and directed conversation with other M.Div. students, pastors, and at least one faculty member in a monthly cluster meeting. It is a conversation that has been crafted by a dedicated group made up of these various participants.

You will be asked to involve yourself in the life of a specific parish. Your level of involvement will depend upon the intersection between your gifts and talents and the parish's needs. There are reasonable minimum requirements for your participation in a parish.
