On watching the teacher

One of the books I'm currently reading is a new publication from the Alban Institute entitled Welcome to Theological Field Education . It is edited by Matthew Floding, and has 11 helpful chapters from various practitioners in the area of practical/contextual theological education.

One chapter I found particularly evocative was written by Dr. Charlene Jin Lee of San Francisco Theological Seminary. Lee writes:

Lay Committee: Evaluation coming

Within the next two months most of our internships will reach the halfway mark. When six months of internship are completed, the Lay Committee is invited to join with the supervisor and the intern in completing an evaluation. Planning for that evaluation might well begin in January.

They're playing our song

I sat in church on Christmas Eve and remembered...

In one of the churches I served, a parishioner named Bill would sing, "O Holy Night" at the late service on Christmas Eve every year. He had done so every year since the congregation was founded fifty years before. Even into his eighties Bill's voice was strong, clear and powerful. No quaver there.
