Ministry in Context

Life in the Kitchen

On wintry Sunday evenings this year my wife and I settled down for an evening of TV from PBS and Great Britain. I am referring to “Downton Abbey”, of course. I know it is only a dressed-up soap opera, but an hour or so with the Earl of Grantham and his fun-loving family is usually at least interesting. Director's Word: Called to Be Unsettled

"A Gospel that doesn't unsettle, a Word of God that doesn't get under anyone's skin, a Word of God doesn't touch the real sin of the society in which it is being proclaimed, what Gospel is that?" - Oscar Romero

The end of December 2014 brought a congratulatory word from the President of Luther Seminary. She informed me that she had recommended my name to the Board (which they voted on and approved), and that my journey as Director of Contextual Learning would begin on January 1 2015.

As I settle

It is also a way of re-framing mission from something we "do" (now, or then) to something we "are" (all the time). It is easy for me to see what God is doing loving the world—I just need to listen to our interns from Luther Seminary! They are getting involved in what
