Bethel has great energy in implementing our vision of "...amplifying God's grace, nourishing God's creation, reaching out and building community." We are open to new ideas and experiences. We would love to learn from students as much as students might want to learn from us. Some areas of ministry include: environmental justice, reconciling in Christ, shared ministry/building with two non-profit organizations, two Hispanic congregations & one Ethiopian congregation, service and justice, community outreach, sharing resources with our neighborhood, and our radical welcome! Our Mission Council is currently exploring new ministries as it relates to the church of the future. Our Board of Administrators are working on the completion of projects like a renewal of our sanctuary, putting solar panels on our roof, and installing rain gardens throughout our property. Our newly energized Children, Youth and Family Committee have created and are working on our new mission for faith formation: "Bridging generations to model, equip and encourage a foundation of trust in God's story." We are a growing congregation in the middle of South Minneapolis and we would love to work with you!

[SITE FULL] Central Lutheran Church
, Minneapolis, MN 55404
Central Lutheran Church in downtown Minneapolis offers a number of ministry learning opportunities. There are four specific areas that are grounded in essentials for ministry guided by exceptional rostered leaders.
1. Liturgical presiding and public worship leadership. For those called to lead public prayer, this [mentorship] will give seminarians opportunity to gain experience in planning, preparing for, and leading public prayer. Attending to the needs of the assembly, clear proclamation, and transparency in action are starting points for all public leadership of worship.
2. Biblical Hospitality. For those called to ministries of hospitality and creating and hosting public events, this [mentorship] will give seminarians opportunity gain experience in the midst of Central’s ministry of being a welcoming, public church and events enterprises as we strive to extend a ongoing series of cascading or concentric welcomes by paying special attention to those who are new or guests.
3. Music and worship. This (mentorship) is for seminians seeking to integrate musical background with the role of music for worship. What is the role of music and worship? How do we deepen an understanding for both? It’s important for every seminarian to be aware of worship planning and how music fits into the life of the congregation. This mentorship will provide the opportunity to participate in the worship and music life of the congregation.
4. Essentials in Community Ministry. This (mentorship) will serve within Central Lutheran's Restoration Center. The Restoration Center welcomes over 200 people in need to worship, a community meal, support, free store and a health clinic that is offered through a partnership with Augsburg College. What is the role of the Church in caring for this in need? What is the role of the Church in advocacy? Seminarians seeking to deepen awareness and engagement in these key questions will benefit from this unique mentorship.

Cross of Hope Lutheran Chruch
, Anoka, MN 55303-3332
I could envision CPL students engaging in learning opportunities including preaching, teaching (a variety of ages), engaging in Wednesday evening "Faith Formation Night" at a variety of age levels including a new Adult Faith Formation small group ministry called Journey Through The Cross, connecting with in one (or multiple) of our 6 Ministry Tables including: Congregational Life, Missions, Facilities, Admin, Music and Worship (including Sacrament Team & Art's and Environment Team), and Faith Formation (including preschool, elementary, middle school/Confirmation, and high school/youth ministries). We are also open to having our CPL student sit in on Council/Finance meetings, if that is an area they would like to gain experience. This said, we are hoping to engage a student in broadening their experience in areas that will be helpful/beneficial/challenging/growing to them rather than having predefined boxes where we hope to see CPL students fit. If an individual student comes with a lot of youth ministry experience, I would encourage at that student to engage the Cross of Hope community in some other area where they perhaps have less experience allowing for greater opportunities for learning/growth. We seek to be flexible in creating those opportunities to meet the specific needs/backgrounds of each student.

[SITE FULL] Galilee and Minnesota Faith Chinese Lutheran Churches ELCA
, Roseville, MN 55113-6923
Our church houses two small ELCA congregations, Minnesota Faith Chinese Lutheran Church under the leadership of Pastor Shen Lin, and Galilee Lutheran Church. We have joint bilingual worship services only twice per year (Mandarin –English). However, every Sunday morning from September through May we have a joint Sunday school. All together we have an average of about twelve kids attending. This new academic year we will be trying something new, which is a one-room Sunday School curriculum where all the kids of different ages will be together. Sunday school is downstairs from 11:00 a.m. until noon. Galilee worships from 9:30-10:30, and Faith Chinese worships (during our joint Sunday School) from 11:00 – 12:00 noon. After that, MN Faith Chinese has fellowship often with a meal to share. Preparing class and teaching Sunday School each week (along with another teacher from Faith Chinese and/or Galilee) will be the primary task for the seminarian. However, there are many potential learning opportunities at our two churches, depending on the gifts and interests of the seminarian. For example, there could be the chance to preach, lead an adult forum, and become part of our GLOW Team. GLOW (Galilee Live on Wednesdays) is our primary outreach program to the community which includes a free meal, games, educational and creative activities, music, and fun. GLOW is free and open to all children (and their families) in the neighborhood. Seminarians could possibly take on leadership roles in Confirmation classes, on youth outings, prepare and give children’s messages during worship, organize volunteers for our possible community garden in the spring of 2016, accompany the pastor doing pastoral care visits, participate in bible studies and fellowship with Faith Chinese on Friday evenings, participate in Sunday worship (in Mandarin), participate in the Chinese Spring Festival, and the list goes on. Seeking CYF.

As stated previously, this position is mainly a CYF position. Assisting with teaching Confirmation, leading small groups, structuring and leading our high school ministry, and helping to plan summer trips/retreats are just a few of the learning opportunities. However, in the past, we have also provided the space for students to explore other areas of ministry that interest them. For instance, one previous student lead Centering Prayer groups throughout his time with us for adults of the congregation, and he preached two Sundays of the year.
Some specific goals for our time together might be: developing a more consistent high school ministry program with opportunities for fellowship, service, and continued learning; creating a more effective way of transitioning students from confirmation to high school ministry; planning and leading lock-ins or retreats; working with the CYF staff of other Wildfire churches (a collaboration of 8 churches that work together in all kinds of exciting ways) to plan and implement programming; building relationships with students, parents, and staff for the deepening of community and ministry.
Seeking CYF, 15-20 hours/week, $750.00/month.

Jacob's Well is a 9 year old church this fall, but we still operate with a highly mission-oriented focus and are in the process of helping start a new community and of developing a process of identifying and equipping more leaders for churches like ours. Students can also observe how we do experimentation for finding ways to most effectively connect with those already here, and those not part of JW yet.

We are in the very beginning stages of church planting, which means students will have a high-creativity, high-influence position in the leadership of the plant. This work will be grounded in leadership development and mentorship from the site supervisor. Students can expect to leave with a working knowledge of community organizing, environmental justice, and congregational development.
This is an opportunity to do practical dreaming around 21st Century ecclesiology. Using Lean Startup methodology, we will explore models of ministry including house church, non-profit partnership, for-profit social entrepreneurship, and so forth. This would not be a good fit for a student seeking a high-liturgy expression of Christian worship.
Optional learning includes pastoral care through the Enneagram, United Methodist theology/polity (though non-UMC applicants are welcome), and social media/brand development.Of course, more "standard" congregational skills (premarital counseling, performing weddings and funerals) will also be part of the curriculum. It would be the task of the intern to lead the congregation to reach out in healthy, meaningful ways. To lead well, the intern would best spend time doing various dabblings.

There would be opportunities to lead Bible studies and other adult education classes. The student could learn more about church administration, participate in youth ministry, participate in children's ministry and other educational leadership opportunities like teaching confirmation. One unique feature of our congregation is that I am also a Licensed Associate Marriage and Family Therapist and I have completed a CPE residency. That being said, pastoral care and visitation is large focus at our church and the student would have a lot of pastoral care opportunities as well. There are many opportunities to experience a wide variety of ministry at our church and the main focus would be to work with the student to make sure that they are experiencing ministry that would be most beneficial for their education.
[SITE FULL] The Norwegian Lutheran Memorial Church
, Minneapolis, MN 55404-2952
Multicultural. We are in an American setting, but also seek inspiration for our work within the Church of Norway. Most of our work is done within the Norwegian American milieu in the Twin Cities, but we are in addition to this a church for many Norwegian groups and individuals who are visiting the Midwest. We also reach other parts of the Nordic American community, especially through the Leiv Eriksson International Festival which is held annually in September/October.
We can offer a setting where a seminary student can learn more about how to do ministry in a different cultural setting than the mainstream American culture, and where a second language is involved. We are an ethnic congregation, and a congregation with much history. There is a strong emphasis on quality music, so a potential student will also be able to learn from our capable organist and choir director. Again our music is reflective of our cultural heritage. Our new focus in 2015/2016 is younger families and their children as we this summer hired a part-time Youth Ministry Director. We want to offer more programming to this demographic. We are also planning to grow our English Worship attendance, and are working to find out the most effective way to do this. This part of our ministry also need to connect with our Norwegian American profile.

University lutheran Church of Hope (ULCH) has welcomed seminary students for many years and understands this to be part of our vocation as a congregation. A student continues as our Youth Director (he is in the M.Div. program in the CYF track) and another student is linked with ULCH through an internship with Lutheran Campus Ministry. We have space for up to two other students. Students here can be involved in any area of ministry they choose. These areas may include but aren't limited to worship participation and leadership, preaching, teaching (adults, children, youth), visitation, administration, social justice work, relational ministry, campus connections, and pastoral care.
As a CPL site, we are a learning place for students to experience a particular congregation's context and ministry. This congregation is unique in the university setting in Dinkytown by the U of M. Students do this learning by dancing between observation, participation, leadership, practice, and reflection. I am open to students finding their own pace in this learning and growing in their sense of pastoral identity. Reflection is a big part of this learning and I value regular conversations with students.

Zion Lutheran Church
, Buffalo, Minnesota 55313
We are a congregation of 4000+ members, about 75 students per grade level. In this opportunity, the student would have a great chance to see the workings of a large, growing edge, suburban congregation. We have an excellent staff, excellent facilities, and are poised as a hub of the community with our ministry and outreach. The student would be working closely with both pastors to facilitate the Youth ministry. There are opportunities to coordinate and empower adult leaders, facilitate mission trips and fundraisers, perhaps do some large group teaching in the confirmation program (if desired), and curate the weekly senior high youth group. We are hoping to move away from the "one man/woman show" model of youth ministry and migrate to a model where we raise up skilled and gifted teams of adults to help us engage more youth in the ministry. Seeking CYF, 20-25 hours/week, $11-12/hour.
Zion Lutheran of Cottage Grove
, Cottage Grove, Minnesota 55016
Zion is a traditional ELCA congregation with about 250 members, with a weekly worship attendance of about 80. We are looking to expand our worship service options to include a contemporary service scheduled at a time other than Sunday morning. We have many reasons for doing this, primarily as a means of outreach to weekend campers and sports enthusiasts who rarely attend worship on a Sunday morning. We are looking for a student or two who would like to explore contemporary worship in a traditional setting. The students have to be skilled instrumentalists as well as worship leaders, and able to recruit others with musical ability who are not a part of our congregation. We want the service to be solidly confessional and contemporary at the same time. It would also be an opportunity to train others in the Cottage Grove community in contemporary worship, some who may never have had much contact with a church. We have a very large high school just north of us where many of our students attend, who may come to a service that is geared to youth and the needs of youth in high school. Our community has a lot of young families who are not currently connected to a faith community, partly because their weekends from April to October are spent at the lakes or camping grounds up north. We look at this new, non-Sunday morning worship opportunity as a way to reach out to our community.
Seeking CYF, 10-15 hours/week, $11/hour.
