Teaching Congregations transitioned to Christian Public Leader at the end of the 2013 – 2014 academic year. In 2014 - 2015, Teaching Congregations will be offered only to students completing their graduation requirements as per the distributive curriculum. This will remain a non-credit degree requirement. Students and supervisors should be in touch with Contextual Learning at contextuallearning@luthersem.edu.

TEACHING CONGREGATIONS SITE PREFERENCES AND MATCHING PROCESS

  1. Register!

You'll need to register for Teaching Congregations as you would for any other semester course.
    - The course number for the fall semester is: FE 4021.
    - The course number for the spring semester is: FE 4022.

  2. Visit

Before stating your site preferences, please review the congregations both online and in person, if possible. Visit several churches, and don't lock in on one right away. Pay special attention to the kinds of features that might be important to you. (For example, a well-maintained nursery if you have small children, a strong outreach to the community if you value that type of ministry, or a congregational setting that you have not experienced before and which will help you stretch your comfort zone.) If you are not able to physically visit a church, feel free to call and speak with the pastor listed for that site.

  3. Preferences

You may submit first, second and third preferences to our office, using the Preferences Form. You will find a link to this form from the MyLutherNet page for Teaching Congregations once you have registered for the course.

We will do our best to attend to your placement preferences. The Contextual Learning office will make all final decisions regarding student placement. If you have questions, e-mail us at contextuallearning@luthersem.edu or call our office at 651-641-3226.
