Course registration
- You must submit a Release Form to the Cross-Cultural office. If you do not turn in your release form and the course fills up, you may not get in to the course. Preference will be given to those who have completed their application, so the sooner you turn these in, the better your chances of getting into your experience.
- After your application has been submitted, your Release Form is received in the Cross-Cultural office, and the deposit automatically charged to your student account, the Cross-Cultural staff will register you with the Registrar's office.
- For any Cross-Cultural Experience to actually take place, the necessary number of students must apply and commit to participation in the experience.
Non-refundable deposits
Unless otherwise stated, a non-refundable deposit will be added to your student account. This will be $100 for a domestic experience and $250 for an international experience (unless stated otherwise). Approximately one month before your trip departs, the balance due of the program costs for your experience will be added to your student account.
Please note: The cost of non-refundable airline tickets cannot be refunded to students after tickets are purchased by Luther Seminary. Individual students will need to negotiate any refund on an unused ticket directly with the airline or travel agent issuing the ticket. (There are no exceptions to this policy.)
Full credit
The cross-cultural experience at SCUPE in Chicago will only be offered as a full course with full course tuition.
Alternative Cross-Cultural Experiences and Waivers
On rare occasions, alternative Cross-Cultural Experiences not sponsored by Cross-Cultural may be considered on a case by case basis and reviewed according to the above criteria. Please know that each year the deadline for submitting petitions regarding alternative J-Term Cross-Cultural Experiences is October 1, and the deadline for submitting petitions regarding alternative summer Cross-Cultural Experiences is March 15. Please contact the Cross-Cultural office at contextuallearning@luthersem.edu for further information.
In special circumstances, the Cross-Cultural Experience may be waived because of some previous experience(s) that you might have completed. Additional consultation with the director of Cross-Cultural Education must take place and a Petition for Waiver must be filed to initiate this request.
