Submission and Publication Policy

Dissertations must be in English, and must exemplify the mission of the CTRF and Word & World. Submit proposals to:

Submissions should include:

Abstract: The proposal must include an abstract of not more than 300 words, which will then be reviewed by members of the editorial board. Upon approval of the abstract, the full text will then be requested from the author.

Cover letter: The proposal must also include a cover letter indicating the following:

  • the name of the author
  • the university that accepted the dissertation in partial fulfillment of the requirements for awarding a Ph.D. or equivalent
  • the date on which that degree was conferred
  • the name of the director of the dissertation
  • the names of those who served on the dissertation committee the date on which the dissertation was successfully defended.

Letter of Recommendation: In addition, a letter of recommendation for the publication of the manuscript from the dissertation director or one member of the committee is required.

Publication requirements include:

Editorial Work: Upon acceptance for publication in the series, the author is responsible for supplying an electronic manuscript of a final version of the text, formatted in any major word-processing software.  The author's institution may need to pay a small editorial fee to the publisher, as determined on an individual basis.  When necessary, Word and World and/or Luther Seminary may help provide some funds toward these fees.

» Publication: In addition to publication of a portion of the dissertation on-line, a short publication run of bound volumes with Pickwick Press will be available at a reasonable price. On both the on-line and bound publications, the author will retain the copyright to the material.
