The Holy Land Experience: A Spiritual Pilgrimage
by Rick Bliese
I took my first trip to Israel 30 years ago while I was in seminary. The trip changed my life! I wished I had made it sooner because it changed the way I read the Bible, especially the stories about Jesus and his disciples. With one visit the biblical geography became real, tangible and touchable. I still remember the afternoon when I walked up the Mount of Olives. Incredible! The view of Holy City, Jerusalem, from that remarkable site was simply beautiful. The garden of Gethsemane was also etched into my imagination on that day as well as the Pool of Bethseda and Pilate's Judgment Hall. A few days later, the blue waters of the Sea of Galilee became as unforgettable as the salt water of the Dead Sea. Bethlehem, Manger Square and the Church of the Nativity—each site brought to reality the stories of the Bible in a fresh way for me as a student of the Bible.
I wish every Christian could make this trip—this pilgrimage—at least once. The beauty of any trip to Israel is that stories from the Bible become alive because you get to stand on the very site where sacred history took place. You visit places where Jesus walked, lived, taught, performed miracles, where he was crucified and raised from the dead.
Would you like to share a life-changing and never-to-be-forgotten spiritual experience? It is our joy at Luther Seminary to invite you to join us on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land where you will find a new dimension in understanding Christian history and the life of our Lord. We offer these Israel trips to students regularly. Now we want to provide a similar opportunity to our alumni/ae and supporters. From March 11-24, 2010, Luther Seminary will be hosting this trip of a lifetime. Daily devotions and Bible studies will be led by me and Pastor Jim Lindus, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church in Seattle and Luther Seminary Board member.
If you join us, you will never hear or read God's Word again without thinking of this trip. We have had a strong response to this travel experience, so we only have a few places still available. If you are interested in more information, contact my office at the seminary at (651) 641-3215 or contact Pastor Jim Lindus at (360) 331-5191 or rvlindus@whidbey.com.
If you want the Scripture to come alive for you, please join us for this spiritual adventure.
