Please join us for an enriching tour of the Reformation sights and sounds in Germany, Oct. 22-Nov. 2. Professional local tour guides will lead and teach us as we discover Reformation treasures in image and music in preparation for the 500th anniversary of this world-changing event.
This tour is organized by two Luther Seminary staff members: Paul Daniels, head of arts and archives; and Mary Steeber, coordinator of volunteer programs.
We will visit several sites on this tour, including Weimar. In 1790, Johann Gottfried Herder introduced “historic evolution,” the concept that cultures progress toward an ideal condition of “humanity.” The Church of St. Peter and Paul in Weimar is called the Herder Church, in honor of his work here. Inside, we will see an altar painting by Lucas Cranach, the Elder, whose portraits of Luther are significant historical documents. A visit to the Cranach exhibition at Castle museum is included as well. Following this, we will head to Wittenberg for the next five nights.
Other stops planned on the tour include Leipzig, Eisenach and the Wartburg Castle. To see the full itinerary, visit us online. We hope you will consider joining us for this incredible trip! If you have questions, please contact Paul Daniels at pdaniels@luthersem.edu or 651-641-3205.
