Please join us for an enriching tour of the Reformation sights and sounds in Germany, Oct. 22-Nov. 2. Professional local tour guides will lead and teach us as we discover Reformation treasures in image and music in preparation for the 500th anniversary of this world-changing event.
This tour is organized by two Luther Seminary staff members: Paul Daniels, head of arts and archives; and Mary Steeber, coordinator of volunteer programs.
We will visit several places on this tour, including Wittenberg and Berlin. Wittenberg is alive with Renaissance spirit today as it celebrates nearly 500 years of Lutheran heritage. In this city, Martin Luther lived and taught for 36 years. During our time in Wittenberg, we will tour the brilliant interior of the Castle Church, or the “Theses Church,” where the Reformation began, and have the opportunity to worship here. We will also see Wittenberg’s historic Market Square, Town Hall, Luther’s home and the Town church of Wittenberg—Cranach’s Church. The “Cranach Year” is 2015 and a state exhibition is dedicated to Lucas Cranach the Younger. We will visit the exhibition, as well as Cranach’s workshop, and his world, his two houses and courtyards. Our trip will continue with an excursion in the surrounding towns of Wittenberg and visits to several churches and paintings of Cranach in Kemberg, Coswig, Dessau and Wörlitz.
After our stay in Wittenberg, we will leave for Berlin. A tour through this cosmopolitan city will include the Reichstag building, Brandenburg gate, Berlin’s Holocaust memorial, remains of the Berlin Wall and the Gemäldegalerie Stat of Berlin art exhibition.
Other stops planned on the tour include Leipzig, Weimar, Eisenach and the Wartburg Castle. To see the full itinerary, visit us online. We hope you will consider joining us for this incredible trip! If you have questions, please contact Paul Daniels at pdaniels@luthersem.edu or 651-641-3205.
