On April 19, Dennis Olson, who serves as the Charles Haley Professor of Old Testament Theology at Princeton Theological Seminary, will present the Fretheim Lecture in Biblical Theology. The lecture is titled “My God, Why? The Variety of Biblical Responses to Human Suffering.”
Dennis Olson is an M.Div. graduate of Luther Seminary. He also holds an M.A. and a Ph.D. in Old Testament from Yale University. He is an ordained minister in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and served as a parish pastor for four years in Minnesota before coming to Princeton Seminary, where he has taught for the past 28 years. He is the author of several books, including theological commentaries on the Old Testament book of Numbers (“Interpretation” series), the book of Deuteronomy (with the title “Deuteronomy and the Death of Moses, A Theological Reading”) and the book of Judges in “The New Interpreter’s Bible, Volume 2.” He is currently working on a commentary on the book of Exodus and a book on the theology of Exodus. He recently concluded his work as the Pentateuch general editor for “The Encyclopedia of the Bible and Its Reception” (2008-2015).
