Summer intensives have just kicked off here at Luther Seminary, drawing our entire community to campus to study, connect, and worship together—including distributed learning students from all over the United States and world.
It’s always exciting to experience the vibrancy of the student population together in one place. And I find myself reflecting on the global impact of the seminary. This spring, Luther alumnus and president of the World Lutheran Federation, Nigerian archbishop Musa Panti Filibus, came to campus to meet, preach, and engage with our community. At a reception during his visit, he made a point that I’ve been mulling over ever since: “There are Luther Seminary graduates on every continent in the world. Wherever our alumni serve, the influence of Luther Seminary is felt.”
It’s a responsibility we don’t take lightly. What will our influence be? How will the leaders trained at Luther Seminary shape the church and the world?
Our hope is that the answers to these questions reflect the seminary’s commitment to faithful innovation for the sake of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In a rapidly-changing world, we are equipping leaders to be nimble, responsive, and spiritually and theologically grounded as they form Christian faith and community in every context.
But we can’t do it alone. Whether you’re an alum, partner, donor, or supporter, you are part of this global community of leaders and innovators. Thank you for your ongoing support of the seminary, as together we live into the future to which God is calling us.
