In April, Luther Seminary will host the annual Hein-Fry Lecture, presented by The Rev. Dr. Eleishi Mungure, a 2007 Ph.D. graduate. Mungure is a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania and was recently appointed as the Luther World Federation Area Secretary for Africa, a position she is expected to begin April 1.
Hein-Fry Lecture
“Hearing the Word: Lutherans Read the Bible with the Ecumenical World”
April 14, 12:30 p.m.
Elieshi Mungure, Makumira University College, Tanzania
The 2011 lecture addresses global and ecumenical approaches to biblical interpretation. The Bible is not an exclusive word and those who share in its messages are related to one another, whether we want to be or not.
Christians around the world have positive ways of experiencing the Bible that U.S. Lutherans can learn from and Lutherans have an opportunity to share their experiences of the Bible with those around the world. Hein-Fry 2011 will offer a dialogue with a variety of Christians outside U.S. Lutheranism about engaging the Bible through global and ecumenical perspectives.
The lecture is free and open to the public, and will be held in the Olson Campus Center on the Luther Seminary campus. It will also be webcast live and archived for those unable to attend in person. For more information, visit www.luthersem.edu/lectures.
The annual Hein-Fry Lectures identify key theological issues facing the church. The lectures are designed to stimulate inquiry and discussion at the eight ELCA seminaries and throughout the church.
