By Aaron Fuller, M.Div. ’13
The reason I am a pastor today is because of the commitment that Luther Seminary’s faculty and staff made to me as I wrestled with my call to ministry. During my seminary journey I encountered uncertainty and questions, but thanks to the work of the Spirit through the Luther community, I am serving God in such a life-giving way today. As a first-call pastor at two congregations in Portsmouth, Va., I get to join with my parishioners in imagining and moving toward a new vision for mission and ministry—and frankly, it’s awesome.
The faculty and staff of Luther Seminary continue to support my education today through online resources like Working Preacher and other continuing education opportunities, as well as answering the occasional email from me! Through monthly, sustained giving I hope to convey my commitment to give back to the Luther Seminary community—and express my thanks for their gifts and ministry to folks like me!
As my congregations think about stewardship, it’s important for each of us to talk about it practically but also to understand why it’s important to us. For me, stewardship is about engaging in regular, sustained giving. Automated, monthly giving is more manageable and easier for planning an ongoing budget, and allows me to still have a big impact by giving smaller amounts spread out over time. Also, sustained giving encourages me to reflect on what matters most in my life and prioritize where I invest my money and resources. Being a member of Faithful Giving allows me to support Luther Seminary and keep the mission at the forefront of my heart and mind.
