Please join us for two exciting events featuring Walter Brueggemann, professor emeritus of Old Testament at Columbia Theological Seminary! For the inaugural Terence E. and Faith L. Fretheim Lecture in Biblical Theology, Brueggemann will speak about “Why the Old Testament Must not Go Away.” This lecture will focus on the ways in which the church has tried to dismiss the Old Testament, and why it is important that we continue to engage with it.
Brueggemann will also deliver a second lecture and join Dr. Fretheim for a conversation about this topic the following day.
Sept. 22
Fretheim Lecture: “Why the Old Testament Must not Go Away,” 7 p.m.
Sept. 23
“Preaching the Old Testament,” 9:15 a.m.
A conversation between Walter Brueggemann and Terry Fretheim, 11:30 a.m.
All events will take place in the Olson Campus Center’s Chapel of the Incarnation, where you’re also invited to join us for chapel between presentations.
This lecture series was established by Terry and Faith Fretheim in order that students, as well as faculty, staff and surrounding Luther community members, would have a chance to learn more about scholarship in biblical theology by leaders in this field. These lectures will focus on the theology presented by the Bible about God and how the study of God through the Bible impacts Christian theology.
