Teaching and preaching the story is the great challenge for this generation of preachers. On Oct. 1-3, the Celebration of Biblical Preaching joined pastors and lay people to meet that challenge with courage, creativity and confidence.
More than 250 attended the 2½-day conference on the Luther Seminary campus. Together, they explored how best to preach the old, old story for a new day and age.
Organized by the Center for Lifelong Learning, the event featured some of the foremost scholars and preachers in the field. Luther Seminary's Rolf Jacobson, associate professor of Old Testament, led the worship service and one of five plenaries.
During the Celebration, the new look of WorkingPreacher.org was unveiled by Luther Seminary's Karoline Lewis, Alvin N. Rogness Chair of Homiletics; and David Lose, Marbury E. Anderson Chair of Biblical Preaching. Working Preacher is a free resource offered by Luther Seminary faculty for those who wish to dig deeper into the Bible.
This year's theme, Preaching the Story, was examined through illuminating lectures, chapel services and workshops, which focused on topics like visual preaching and telling the story to multicultural congregations.
