Federal Application

In order to be eligible for any of the Luther Seminary's student
loan programs you must complete the Free Application for Federal
Student Aid (FAFSA). You can go there now by clicking the link
in the right hand panel.
Even if you think you do not need student loans to
finance your seminary education we still encourage you to
complete the application. Situations change over the course of
the year and unexpected situations may arise that require additional
funding. If your FAFSA is complete, we can
respond quickly to these surprises. Depending on the time of
the year it can take up to 3 weeks to get all the necessary steps
completed to process a student loan if we are starting from the
beginning.
The second reason to complete your FAFSA is that our office, from time to
time, receives scholarship or grant funds that must dispersed to
students based on need. If we have your FAFSA
information we can include you in these types of requests.
Our recommendation: Complete the FAFSA.
To complete the FAFSA you will need a copy of your prior years
tax return. You can complete the FAFSA before completing your
taxes, you will just need the accurate numbers that will be files. The FAFSA for the new year becomes available January
1 of each year. We encourage you to file as early as
possible. If you have completed the FAFSA in the past you
should have received a federal PIN number. If you still have
this number you can "sign" your application right online and your
initial application will be complete. When you enter the FAFSA
school code for Luther Seminary (G02357), we will receive the information electronically. You
will not need to submit a paper copy to our office.
If you are
completing the application for the first time you will need to print
the signature page at the end of the application and mail it to the
indicated address. Within a week or so you should receive your
federal PIN number which will allow you to access your FAFSA
application online should you need to make changes, sign future year FAFSA
applications and if you are applying for Federal Stafford Loans you
will be able to electronically sign the promissory note using your
pin.
If you want to apply for a PIN number prior to completing your
FAFSA or if you
have forgotten your pin, you can request that it be sent to you by
going to www.pin.ed.gov.
Within a couple of days you will receive your PIN via email.
