International Fellowship/ProfessorshipThe International Fellowship/Professorship at Luther Seminary was inaugurated in the Spring of 2005, thanks to funding provided by the Schiotz Endowment. It provides an opportunity for a scholar to spend five to nine months at Luther Seminary for research, writing, teaching and interacting with Luther Seminary faculty and students. It provides one means by which the witness of the global church may be heard and engaged at the largest of the theological institutions of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Read more about the recipients. ApplicantsThe fellowship/professorship will be available for teachers of Christian theology and ministry from Asia, Africa, or Latin America interested in spending a period of five to nine months at Luther Seminary in research and teaching with a missional and confessional articulation of theology and ministry. Emerging scholars (particularly women) from recognized partner institutions of Luther Seminary are especially encouraged to apply. Qualifications and the application processA doctorate (Ph.D. or equivalent) is required. The application should include a vita with complete contact information; a list of publications and/or a sample of writing; and three letters of recommendation, the first written by colleague who knows the applicant's work, the second demonstrating institutional endorsement and the third demonstrating church endorsement. Also needed is an account of teaching experience and suggestions as to what the applicant will teach and research during her/his time in St. Paul (up to seven pages). Written and oral proficiency in English is necessary; the application process may include a telephone interview. Scholars in any of the major disciplines of theological study are invited to apply. While at Luther SeminaryTeaching duties will be negotiated, but may involve required or elective courses in Global Christianity and in “Christianity and World Religions” (normally 1.0 or 1.5. courses; more could be agreed upon), plus a faculty seminar and a public lecture. The person selected will serve in the History/Theology division (which includes Mission and World Christianity, Islamic Studies, and Justice & Christian Community). Luther Seminary offers free housing (for one person) and a monthly stipend of U.S. $1500. The Global Mission Institute will be responsible for matters of hospitality and networking. Time PeriodThe length of the fellowship/professorship is five to nine months, so as to allow time for research and for preparing courses. This period of time is flexible but should include the whole of Luther Seminary's Spring Semester, February-May (e.g. January-May; January-September; or September-May; etc.). The fellowship/professorship is non-renewable. Application DeadlinePlease note: we are not accepting applications at this time. Our next opening will be the spring semester 2011.
