Hein-Fry Lecture to be Given by International Alum Eleishi Mungure

Eleishi Mungure

On April 14, Luther Seminary will host the annual Hein-Fry Lecture, presented by the Rev. Dr. Eleishi Mungure, a 2007 Ph.D. graduate. Mungure is a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania and was recently appointed as the Lutheran World Federation Department of Mission and Development Area Secretary for Africa, a position she began on April 1.

Hein-Fry Lecture

"Hearing the Word: Lutherans Read the Bible with the Ecumenical World"
Thurs., April 14
Public reception: 10 a.m., Olson Campus Center
Lecture: 11 a.m., Chapel of the Incarnation, Olson Campus Center
Elieshi Mungure, Makumira University College, Tanzania

The 2011 lecture addresses global and ecumenical approaches to biblical interpretation. The Bible is not an exclusive word and those who share in its messages are related to one another, whether we want to be or not.

Christians around the world have positive ways of experiencing the Bible that U.S. Lutherans can learn from and Lutherans have an opportunity to share their experiences of the Bible with those around the world. Hein-Fry 2011 will offer a dialogue with a variety of Christians outside U.S. Lutheranism about engaging the Bible through global and ecumenical perspectives.

The lecture is free and open to the public. It will be webcast live and archived for those unable to attend in person. For more information, visit www.luthersem.edu/lectures/heinfry.

The annual Hein-Fry Lectures are sponsored by the ELCA. They work to identify key theological issues facing the church and are designed to stimulate inquiry and discussion at the eight ELCA seminaries and throughout the church.
