On Oct. 1, Dr. Robera Battal began his work as the interim director of the Global Mission Institute and Cross Cultural Education. Battal comes to the GMI with significant experience in multicultural ministry and studies in international relations. He will guide and oversee the work of the GMI and CCE during the next two years of transition and program redesign and revision at Luther Seminary.

Battal has degrees from Augsburg College, Yale University and Bethel Seminary. He also brings congregational ministry, program oversight and administrative experience. He most recently served as assistant to the bishop in the Minneapolis Area Synod.

In his new role, Battal will also work with President Richard Bliese and Academic Dean Roland Martinson to strengthen mission partnerships with churches and seminaries around the world.

Together with Michael DeLashmutt, associate dean of first theological degrees, Battal will coordinate and support faculty leading cross cultural courses, including those working together with our partner churches around the world.

Chenar Howard, GMI program and relations coordinator, notes: "We are excited to incorporate the variety of skills and experiences which Robera brings to us into existing programs, and we are blessed to have him lead us into the next chapter of the GMI's unfolding story."

We welcome Robera Battal to the GMI and to Luther Seminary!
