“All Things Bright And Beautiful,” WOV 767

From the smallest flower to the tallest mountain, we are reminded of all that the Lord has created for us to care for and be stewards of. Within the wonder of creation, it is easy to see why the Psalmist and Job wondered why God would be mindful of humans when "all things bright and beautiful, all creatures great and small, all things wise and wonderful, the Lord God made them all."

What is it about humanity, and all its messiness, that God takes such an interest in us? Yet the last verse of the hymn reminds us that we have been given a sacred task: "God gave us eyes to see them, and lips that we might tell, how great is God Almighty, who has made all things well." Humanity tells of the wonder of creation and has been granted the ability and creativity to sing the praises of all God's work.

Lord God, we find you active in the past, the present and the future. Give us the words to express the wonders of your creation through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

God made their glowing colors, God made their tiny wings,

2 The purple-headed mountains, the river running by,

3 The cold wind in the winter, the pleasant summer sun,

4: God gave us eyes to see them, and lips that we might tell
how great is God Almighty, who has made all things well.
