Next Day

This hymn has a tremendous significance in my life; it always makes me smile. I first heard the hymn when I was attending a Global Mission Event; I loved it right away! The words of the hymn came to mind again as I talked to my bishop about the possibility of serving with our companion synod in Tanzania. I always thought I was open to wherever God was calling me, but still I thought, "certainly not there?!!" After visiting with the Tanzanian people and being so blessed by their hospitality and generosity of spirit, I heard God, "calling in the night." I had found a peace in knowing I was going right where God wanted me.

Now I give thanks for my Tanzanian friends who taught me so much and shared their lives with me. My hope and prayer is that as we all open ourselves to God we will find joy in serving wherever it is that God is calling us.

Gracious God, help us to open our hearts to your Spirit and answer your call wherever that may be. AMEN!
