Verse 12So teach us to count our days that we may gain a wise heart.
Verse 13Turn, O Lord! How long? Have compassion on your servants!
Verse 14Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, so that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.
Verse 15Make us glad as many days as you have afflicted us, and as many years as we have seen evil.
Verse 16Let your work be manifest to your servants, and your glorious power to their children.
Verse 17Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us, and prosper for us the work of our hands- O prosper the work of our hands!
Devotion
Count your days!! Count your days and all the gifts you still need to get! Only eighty shopping days left!! Better yet, count your days AS gift. Our days are indeed a gift, for God has indeed "turned" (vs. 13). Despite humanity’s many turns and turning—and often in a direction away from God—God's direction remains faithfully turned toward us. This indeed is grace. This indeed is love.
When faithful people dance with others in this eternal grace and love, we participate in the Lord’s unfolding salvation in humanity, in creation, and in heaven. Our hands are no longer incomplete but find fullness in the Almighty's hands. Through God’s grace our hands have an effect; they become a reflection of God’s will "on earth as it is in heaven." Our doing finds completeness in the authority of God’s hands and in God's hands we constantly discover our being.
Prayer
Lord who comes to mend, continue to come and mend us as only you can and do. Amen.
