“Jesus is a Rock in a Weary Land,” ELW 333
Devotion
Refrain
Jesus is a rock in a weary land,
a weary land, a weary land;
my Jesus is a rock in a weary land,
a shelter in a time of storm.
No one can do like Jesus,
not a mumbling word he said;
he went walking down to Lazarus' grave,
and he raised him from the dead. Refrain
When Jesus was on earth,
the flesh was very weak;
he took a towel and girded himself
and he washed his disciples' feet. Refrain
Yonder comes my Savior,
him whom I love so well;
he has the palm of victory
and the keys of death and hell. Refrain
On November 28, 1905, twenty-nine ships were either damaged or sunk in a storm on Lake Superior. As a result, Split Rock lighthouse was built north of Two Harbors, MN. This lighthouse became a life-saving structure on a rocky cliff, 130 feet above the violent and tumultuous waters of the North Shore of Lake Superior.
During the storms in our own life, we find ourselves in desperate need of guidance for navigation and direction. Jesus our Rock, rescues us from the destruction of death and shines a light from the cross that leads us to his home in heaven.
Prayer
Christ our Rock and Salvation, guide us through this weary land and provide shelter for us during the storms we face in life. Amen.
