Hymn: My Lord What a Morning
ELW 438 and WOV 627

The slaves who sang this spiritual sang in anticipation of the day when they would no longer wear the chains of slavery - and more. They could not contain the anticipation and joy of that day to come and so they sang, "My Lord, what a morning!"

The chains of arrogance and evil still abound. Malachi calls us to look forward with anticipation, for the Lord will destroy evil and the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings. The psalmist calls us to not keep this to ourselves, but to burst forth in praise with all of the instruments and all of creation in anticipation of the future establishment of God's kingship.

Yes, the trumpet will sound, and the Christian will shout. My Lord, what a morning!

Righteous God, help us to not be overwhelmed with the arrogance and evil of this world, but to look forward to your promised reign with a song of praise and thanksgiving. Amen.

"My Lord What a Morning," ELW 438 and WOV 627

Refrain

My Lord, what a morning;
my Lord, what a morning;
oh, my Lord, what a morning,
when the stars begin to fall.

1 You will hear the trumpet sound,
to wake the nations underground,
looking to my God's right hand,
when the stars begin to fall.

Refrain

2 You will hear the sinner cry,
to wake the nations underground,
looking to my God's right hand,
when the stars begin to fall.

Refrain

3 You will hear the Christian shout,
to wake the nations underground,
looking to my God's right hand,
when the stars begin to fall.
