Thesis Proposal - Master of Theology degree
After completing course requirements
and language examinations, the student will register for thesis
preparation.
The thesis is intended to demonstrate
the student’s ability to pursue research in the area of
concentration. The thesis is not necessarily an original
contribution to scholarship, but it may not simply duplicate
existing scholarship on the topic.
The thesis shall not normally exceed
100 word–processed pages.
The associate dean, at the written
request of the student and with the written permission of the
faculty member nominated, appoints the thesis adviser.
The student, in
consultation with the thesis adviser, prepares a thesis proposal
including:
-
a title
-
a brief discussion of the existing scholarship on the topic
-
a statement of the nature and
purpose of the thesis
-
a detailed outline describing the
content of each chapter of the thesis
-
a working bibliography
-
the projected date of completion
-
nominations for two members of the
faculty who agree to serve, along with the thesis adviser, as
readers of the thesis.
During the time of
consultation with the thesis adviser, the student arranges a
session with the library representative to review research
strategies pertaining to the proposal and to refine the working
bibliography.
With the written approval of the
thesis adviser and readers, the student submits the completed
thesis proposal to the chair of the thesis adviser’s division for
the approval of the division.
After securing approval by the
division, the student submits the thesis proposal to the Graduate
Committee for its approval.
