About the Healthy Leaders program

Living well at luther

This life, therefore, is not godliness but the process of becoming godly, not health but getting well, not being but becoming, not rest but exercise. We are not now what we shall be, but we are on the way. The process is not yet finished, but it is actively going on. This is not the goal but it is the right road. At present, everything does not gleam and sparkle, but everything is being cleansed.
                                                                                                                — Martin Luther

Well-being is not a constant state but an active changing state. Life brings change daily. It is also a process of balance. As Luther said, it is about becoming and it is never finished.

Being aware and tending to our whole being puts us on the right road. Healthy Leaders Living Well at Luther is an opportunity for students to take part in activities offered at Luther which encourage the seven essential elements of well-being: Career Well-being, Social Well-being, Financial Well-being, Physical Well-being, Community Well-being, Intellectual Well-being and Spiritual Well-being.

Recent studies cited in the New York Times and Sojourners find that the health of church leaders has diminished.  Stress and expectations make the care of the whole self both difficult and complicated.

Living Well at Luther brings a glimpse of what it means to be ready for the ministry of Jesus Christ. It is NOT easier to take care of ourselves later. The time is NOW. This program is for all Luther students and their spouses.

Look for many Living Well at Luther activities offered on campus that will assist in the care of your whole self during this academic year!
