EndNote X.1

The Luther Seminary Learning Systems and Technology Committee authorized and purchased an EndNote site license for Luther Seminary faculty and students. EndNote facilitates the process of compiling bibliographic data. You can easily create and correctly format citations and bibliographies for your research papers and theses.

  • Installing EndNote on your home computer
EndNote is installed on all library and lab computers. Students who wish to install the program on their own computer must sign an EndNote Terms of Use Agreement first. Stop by Computer Services in room 110E, Northwestern Hall to sign the agreement and check out the install CD. Distance students who wish to use the program should download the Agreement form, sign it and mail it to Computer Services, Luther Seminary, 1501 Fulham Street, #110E, St. Paul, MN 55108, along with a check for $3 to cover handling and shipping. You will not have to send the CD back. Please indicate whether you want a PC or Mac version. Download free Adobe Acrobat Reader.

  • Connection File for MARTIN (Luther Library holdings)
Install this file before connecting to and searching the Luther Seminary catalog. Mac version or PC version. Download and save the file to the Connections folder:
    for PCs this is C:\Program Files\Endnote X1\Connections.

  • Modified Output Style ~ Chicago 15A (footnotes)
          [latest version: Chicago15thA_080428.ens ~ 28 April 2008]
This output style is continually being updated in response to your questions. It addresses various issues outlined in The Shortcut. Download and save the file to C:\Program Files\EndNote X1\Styles. If you already have a working document with an earlier version of an output style, you will need to re-format [Format Bibliography] your citations within your document in order for this output style to take effect.

  • Modified Output Style ~ Annotated Bibliographies
          [latest version: Annotated_Chicago15thA.ens ~ 9 July 2007]
This output style makes it easy for you to create an annotated Bibliography that lists basic information (author, title, publisher, year) and the abstract for each citation. Download and save the file to C:\Program Files\EndNote X1\Styles. More information on how to create an Annotated Bibliography is available on the EndNote wiki.

  • Using Cite While You Write: Download a handout on how to use Word & Endnote to create footnotes and a bibliography in your paper or thesis. Word 2008 (for Macs) is now compatible with CWYW. For more information go to the EndNote website.

  • Sample EndNote Library
A sample EndNote library has been created using the sources listed in The Shortcut. You may download it here. Be sure to have the latest output style in place. You can use this sample library to determine what the correct reference types, fields and data are for the sources in The Shortcut. It has been tested (endlessly!); you may also wish to download this document that proves all these examples do, in fact, output correctly when used in conjunction with templates and CWYW. [These examples were created using EndNote 9. They should import easily if you are using X.1.]

  • Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) on the EndNote Wiki
To learn more about using EndNote, check out the Luther EndNote Wiki site. All FAQs are listed there. For a more complete listing, click on the Index, or do a search for your topic. Or create a new one!
What is a Wiki?  a Website that allows you to add, remove, and edit the content. It is easy to use ~ add your tips and tricks ~ share your knowledge!
