Thesis Templates
Templates have been created to work in conjunction with MS Word
and The Shortcut. Their
purpose is, as much as possible, to automate setting up the standard
parts of a thesis written for a degree at Luther Seminary.
Using Templates
Campus Lab & Library Computers
At Luther thesis templates are already
in the right folder for all lab and library
computers. To find them open Word, File→New→My
Templates.
Your Home Computer or Laptop
Download each template
to your personal computer by right clicking on the
hyperlink. Choose "Save Link As" or "Save Target As." When the dialog box appears, select the path
that will put the templates into the correct folder for MSWord
to access. This varies with each operating system. For example: My Computer→C:→Documents and Settings→Application Data→Microsoft→Templates. Save each template
into the folder.
What Thesis Templates Will I Need?
Choose the appropriate template cluster below
for your
program or project.
Working with Thesis Templates
Open Word, go to
File→New Document→My Templates, select a template file
and open it as a Word document, not as a template. Save and name the
file. Develop a workable naming
process for your files. Keep track of all versions and revisions as you write your thesis.
Help in utilizing thesis templates is available in the following
document: Thesis Templates
Help (PDF). Specific instructions and tips are given for
applying styles, formatting page numbers, copying text, etc.
Backing Up Your Thesis
Make sure that you have extra copies of your thesis. Back it
up EACH time you work on it. You have your own space on the
Campus H: drive (backed up 2 times/day by the Campus network
wizards) and/or keep an extra copy on a flash drive.
