"In Your Light We See Light" Reception September 15th

A public reception will occur Sunday September 15 from 2:00 – 5:00 in the OCC for Ron Felt, local Twin Cities wood carver. He will be showing 25 hand carved pieces in the Olson Campus Center narthex. “In Your Light We See Light” will be shown September 10 – November 10.

“I perceive art and music to be the highest of human endeavors.  For me Bach’s B Minor Mass and Michelangelo’s Pieta’ exemplify beauty of such magnitude that they’re unaccountable from a secular world view.  Art and music take me out of myself, out of my ego boundaries, and thrust me into mystery, timelessness, infinity, terror, ecstasy---into God…. I call myself an “Ecclesiastical Sculptor”, with an emphasis on religious themes, especially as portrayed in scripture.  This does not place secular subjects apart from honoring God; I believe that most art serves this purpose but I prefer the direct route.” Ron Felt

Dr. Felt (now a retired dentist) is a wonderful example of a Lutheran layperson who has followed his passion of connecting his faith with his art.  Please join us on September 15th to meet the artist and enjoy his work.   For more information contact Paul Daniels (pdaniels@luthersem.edu) or Kari Bostrom (kbostrom001@luthersem.edu) and Archives (651.641.3205).

New Library Catalog

A new library catalog can be found at http://luthersem.worldcat.org/ along with an added tabbed searchbox to our library homepage http://www.luthersem.edu/library/. The new public search interface will leverage WorldCat to better include materials held by our MTLA colleagues, University of Minnesota, and other libraries around the world. In addition, a new knowledgebase will power a quick way to search our journal title and eBook holdings. MARTIN will continue to be available through the Fall as functionality continues to migrate to the new system.

New Microform Scanner

A new microform scanner is now available in the library thanks to contributions from Arts & Archives, Reformation Research, the Library, and a generous grant (see below). The new scanner is located in the Catalog Room of the library and allows digital scanning of microfilm, microfiche, and microcards. Digital scans can then be saved as readable PDF files onto flash drives or uploaded to other services.

This project has been financed in part with funds provided by the State of Minnesota through the Minnesota Historical Society from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
