Copyright Guidelines & Policy

When is it permissible to copy and distribute other people’s works?

When should I ask for permission?

Who do I ask?

These questions can be answered by the recently updated Luther Seminary Copyright Guidelines & Policy. If you plan to copy, scan, record, stream, or distribute materials created by others, using our facilities or equipment, you must know the basics of copyright. This policy applies to Luther Seminary faculty, staff, and students.

What if you think your use is a “Fair Use” but you are not sure? Is your use an “Ordinary Fair Use” or is it more complex? The Fair Use Checklist can help you figure it out. If you are still not sure, check your analysis with a member of the library staff, reference@luthersem.edu, before making copies or distributing materials.
