What do you know about sexual violence and its after effects?
What skills and knowledge do you need to respond to this threat to world health?
Check out a new guide we've created to help you better understand and respond to sexual violence: Library Guide: Sexual Violence Awareness, and please let us know if you have resources to recommend.
This week (April 4-8) take part in some of the special activities a team of Luther Seminary students, faculty and staff have developed. Our goal is to help our community become more aware and respond effectively and compassionately.
The National Sexual Violence Resource Center notes that "rape, sexual assault, and sexual harassment harm our community, and statistics show one in five women and one in 71 men will be raped at some point in their lives (Black et al., 2011)...Child sexual abuse prevention must be a priority to confront the reality that one in six boys and one in four girls will experience a sexual assault before age 18 (Dube et al., 2005). Young people experience heightened rates of sexual violence, and youth ages 12-17 were 2.5 times as likely to be victims of rape or sexual assault (Snyder & Sickmund, 2006)."
