Borrowing Policies

Viewing your Borrower Record Online

Viewing your record online allows you to check due dates, renew items before they become overdue, and view holds & fine information.

To view your record, click on My Library Account on the library home page. Enter your 14-digit barcode number and last name. Click "Login" or press Enter.

Holds & Recalls

All borrowers may put a hold on an item by contacting the circulation desk by phone: 651.641.3447 or email: libcirc@luthersem.edu

Requested items are eligible for recall after 4 weeks. Items may be recalled for course reserves at any time. If you receive a recall notice, items must be returned promptly.

Library Use via U.S. Mail

If you are a distance learner or Extension borrower and live outside the 7 county metro area, you may request that items be sent to you via the U.S. Postal Service.

Simply call the circulation desk at 651.641.3447 or email libcirc@luthersem.edu to place your request. Items are mailed at book rate, postage reimbursement requested.

Returns

When the library is closed, the book drop at the front door of Gullixson Hall is unlocked and items may be returned there.

During library hours, items must be returned to the circulation desk.

Non-Circulating Material

The following items do not circulate and may be used only within the library.

  • Reference material (identified by 'Ref.' after the call number
  • Journals and magazines (both current and bound back issues)
  • Items housed in Special Collections (identified by 'Vault' after the call number)

Suspension of Privileges

Borrowing privileges may be temporarily suspended in the event of overdue items, fines in excess of $5.00, or lost items.  Borrowing privileges will resume as soon as the account is cleared.

Lost Items

Lost items should be reported immediately to the library.  Unless reported, the fine will continue to accumulate as though overdue.

Borrowers are expected to pay for lost or damaged materials ($35 replacement charge plus a $10.00 service charge per item). If a lost item is then found and returned promptly, all but the service charge will be waived.

Do I qualify for borrowing privileges?

If you are not currently a student, you may qualify to be an Extension borrower if you meet one of the following criteria:

  • You are a graduate of Luther Seminary or one of its predecessor institutions.
  • You are Lutheran clergy residing anywhere in the United States.
  • You are a pastor or church worker (not a volunteer) of any denomination/church body in the 7-county metro area.

If you meet one of these criteria and would like to establish privileges, please stop by the library between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. (Directions) If you are unable to come in during those hours or if you are uncertain if you qualify, please contact the Circulation Desk during those same hours at 651.641.3447 or libcirc@luthersem.edu

If I don’t have borrowing privileges, can I still use the library?

Yes, you are welcome to use our resources here in the library and to take advantage of our reference services.
