Services for People with Disabilities
The Luther Seminary library staff will do all we can to provide access to our library and resources. We support the ADA (American Disabilities Act).
Our building and elevator do NOT conform to code at this time. Loan periods and other services can be adjusted to meet your needs. Please contact us in advance, 651-641-3447, if you plan to visit. We look forward to answering your questions and assisting you.
Parking
There are two parking places reserved for drivers with disabilities in the Luther Seminary parking lot to the south of Gullixson Hall. Enter from Luther Place, located just off Como Avenue, across from St. Anthony Park Lutheran Church.
Physical Access — 2nd Floor Gullixson Hall
The library entrance is on the second floor of Gullixson Hall. The library can be accessed by the front staircase or an elevator located inside the library book stacks.
If you are in a wheelchair or unable to climb stairs, enter Gullixson Hall on the ground level from the south door. We do not have an automatic door--be prepared to open two sets of heavy doors at this entrance. Call in advance (651-641-3447) if you need assistance.
Elevator Access
We have a courtesy phone on the lower level (across from the staff lounge, near the women's bathroom). Call ext. 447 (651-641-3447) and a library worker will come downstairs to let you in and take you up in the elevator.
Wheelchairs
Most wheelchairs will fit between the aisles in the book stacks. Library staff will help you retrieve books on out-of-reach shelves.
Restrooms
There are facilities for men and women on the lower level and the second floor. Our restrooms are ADA compliant at this time.
Computer Access
We have one computer dedicated to those needing assistive technology. We have both a regular and an enlarged keyboard with finger shield. Please let the library staff know if you require other hardware options. For low-vision patrons we have Kurzweil and ZoomText software. We can load other software per your requirements.
This computer has access to all library databases, the internet, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.) BibleWorks, and EndNote software.
Electronic Print Magnifier
Magnifies any print item (may be handwritten) up to 45-60 times its original size and projects it on a TV screen.
