In the last 50 years, American religious life has changed dramatically, leaving most of us trying to keep up. This course will look at the changes in American religion since the 1960s, looking at such modern trends as the rise of "spiritual but not religious," the changes in religious patterns, the rise of conservative Protestantism, mega-Churches, eco-religions and "supermarket" spirituality. We'll examine how these trends have had an impact on how contemporary Americans understand and practice their faith. We'll also consider how we might need to do ministry differently in this new climate, and what our church members might be thinking and wanting in religion. The stress in this course will be on the practical and interactive elements of the subject, and how they will affect our present and future ministries.
