PRAYER, PRESENCE AND RITUAL: CREATING HOLY TIME AND SPACE IN EVERYDAY MINISTRY
Dates: July 27 - 28, 2010
Seminar Leader: Anne Andert, ELCA minister; former parish nurse
Anne Andert served as a parish nurse for nine years prior to being ordained in the ELCA. Having
helped many congregations and parish nurses begin this important ministry, she has a good sense of the questions asked by parish nurses. Last summer she taught this class for parish nurses and was pleased to have several clergy in the group as well. The interaction was so valuable, and so many clergy asked to attend the class, that it is offered for both groups this summer.
Tuition: $100 Contact Hours: 12 Class Times:Tuesday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
Wednesday, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.
Parish nurses and clergy have incredible opportunities as they journey with members of their faith community through times of illness, transition, doubt, dying, education and celebration. How can we set the stage to create opportunities for meaningful dialogue at difficult times? How do we invite individuals, friends and family into the holy times around illness, grief and dying? Regardless of our backgrounds in nursing or ministry, we can all become midwives into the holy times and spaces for the people we serve in our congregations and communities. Become more comfortable with prayer, your own holy presence, listening for the "God-questions" in the conversations with those you serve, and creating holy time and space in your ministry. Each participant will have the opportunity to create a ritual for use in his or her own setting. If you have a ritual that has been valuable in your ministry, you are encouraged to bring it along to share with the group.
Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are available for this course. Please contact instructor for details.
