What Distributed Learning Is
A new model for ministry and mission in
the 21st century
Not just online learning: Online learning is part of the DL program at Luther Seminary, but does not
encompass the program's combination of online, on campus and contextual
learning.
A program that recognizes the whole
church as a learning context
Not distance learning: Distance learning implies a "here" and a
"there." With distributed learning, students are fully connected both
to Luther Seminary and to local congregations no matter where they are.
Cohort-based learning that provides
support and accountability
Not
independent study: Within the DL M.Div. program, you do not navigate
the curriculum on your own, but study within a community of learners.
Courses that are interactive, stimulating, challenging
Not correspondence work: Our online classes include regularly
scheduled readings and postings that keep you motivated and
accountable.
The same high quality of education
that Luther is known forNot a
second class education: Whether online or in the classroom, students
and professors gather around scripture, classic theological texts, and
ministry experiences to deepen knowledge and foster the formation of
pastoral identity.
