How to use the AV equipment
Here you will find directions for using the audio-visual equipment
available for classroom use in Gullixson Hall, rooms 101-104; and
Northwestern Hall, rooms 230-232:
Ceiling mounted projector
VCR
Document camera
Laptop
Media Services Hotline phone
- If you
need to connect a laptop, make those physical connections first.
- Then
turn the projector on by using the remote (takes a minute to warm
up). You will need to point the remote at the projector front or
rear for the IR signal to connect. You also can use the projection
screen as a mirror to bounce the signal to the projector.
- Other
than the power button for on/off you should note the following
buttons:
- Computer: Use this button if you are connecting a laptop and want the
projector to project computer inputs. It allows for computer 1 or 2.
Press again if necessary to get to computer 1.
- Video: Use
this button to select Video 1 for the doc camera or press again for
Video 2 for the VCR.
- Volume: Press plus or minus to raise or lower the volume of the VCR or
computer input.
- Laser:
Pressing the laser button will project a laser beam to be used as a
pointer.
Since this
is a permanent installation, the other buttons should not normally
be needed unless you really want to get into advanced features.
4. To shut
the projector off, press the power button twice. (point at the
projector)
The VCR can be used with the ceiling mounted projector without a
computer. The only equipment locked up is the
VCR. We will not be locking up the remotes unless they start
wandering off. Faculty can check out a key from the FSO to keep as
long as you are at Luther. The same key works in all the cabinets in
Gullixson and Northwestern.
- Turn on
the ceiling mounted projector with the remote.
- Unlock
the cabinet for access to the VCR. Insert the tape and use normal
VCR controls.
- On the
remote control, press the Video button once or twice to cycle to the
VCR signal.
- Lock up
the cabinet and shut off the VCR and projector when you are done.
The document camera can be used with the ceiling mounted
projector without a computer.
- Turn on
the ceiling mounted projector with the remote.
- Turn on
the doc camera with the power switch at the right rear side of the
base.
- On the
projector remote control, press the Video button once or twice to
cycle to the doc camera signal.
- Adjust
the arm to point at your object or paper to project. This is your
zoom feature. Note: The camera head swivels.
- There
are two adjustable rings around the lens. The inner ring is the
aperture for light adjustment and the outer ring is for focus.
- Please
shut off the doc camera and projector when you are done.
- Connect
you laptop to the connections you will need on the cart. You will at
least need the monitor cable connected. Power, Internet, and sound
are optional.
- Turn on
the projector first, and then turn on your computer.
- Press
the “computer” button on the projector remote if the computer
picture does not appear. You also may need to press the Fn-F3 or
Fn-F4 to change from laptop to screen to both.
- Volume -
You will have multiple places to adjust volume; 1) on the projector
remote control, 2) from the media player you might be using, 3) from
the lower right tray loudspeaker icon, and 4) from start > programs
> accessories > entertainment > volume control. Setting these to a
mid range before hand will help prevent over powering the speakers
when you start.
- Please
shut off the projector when you are done.
To facilitate planning and scheduling of resources, the Media Services
department requests at least 72 hours
notice for scheduling of equipment or personnel. However, Media Services
has a cell phone for emergency media services requests,
such as a critical equipment malfunction that needs immediate attention.
Dialing 651-270-3882 will put you in contact with either the Media Services
manager or an on-call employee of that department.
Some Luther Seminary rooms have special
phones that are not connected to the regular campus phone system.
The primary purpose of these phones is to call the Media Services hotline.
To reach Media Services from these phones, dial 9 for an outside line, then 651-270-3882, or
check the speed dial for a quicker connection.
